The Rangers pounded out 12 hits on Mothers' day to take the pre-season opener for both teams. Tommy Harris and Tim Miller pitched very well for the Rangers, and were supported by four players with multi-hit games.

Pirates bats come alive -
Behind solid pitching by Mike Meleski, Bryan Landon, Bobby Gorham and Joe Heckel, the pirates pounded out 23 hits to win their first game. Tyshawn Sobers went 5 for 5 with 2 HR, a 2B and 6 RBI. Dan Holmes added a three run HR in the third and Bobby Gorham hit a grand slam in the fourth inning.
